• Dental Sealants

  • One step in preventative dentistry that protects your teeth against tooth decay is the application of dental sealants.  Sealants are thin coatings that are applied to the teeth, particularly the molars, in order to seal the tooth. This process keeps bacteria and plaque from hiding in the small, miniscule grooves in our teeth.  Dental sealants are applied by brushing, or painting, the special resin onto the tooth and then hardening the substance with a special dental ultraviolet light. This invisible seal creates a barrier for your tooth so that tooth decay can’t set in.

Young children most often receive sealants, as do some adults.  Our Yarmouth dentist recommends newly erupted molars receive sealants, as well as any permanent teeth that are decay-free.  The process takes only a few minutes and can be completed in a single visit. The result is a strong shield that will protect your teeth for years.
